A programmer and tester named simply Chris, has enabled reliable 86Mbit native 24p AVCHD recording on the GH1. He has discovered that the SD card controller's maximum write speed is not hardware limited but instead enforced by a very conservative 'write speed detection' failsafe in the firmware code.

Chris was able to get 100% stable 86Mbit footage from the camera with a deep depth of field to accentuate the amount of detail across the frame, in order to stress test the new firmware modifications. He says that the footage looks spectacular.

Testing is being done to firm up the functionality. Stay tuned.
